Mindful Nature Walk
1. Decide as a family where you will walk (around the block, to a park, to the school).
2. Take a deep belly breath and begin walking. You and your family will try and be silent for the entire walk.
3. Walk mindfully paying close attention to all your senses (sight, smell, hearing, touch).
4. Pick up one or two things on your walk that brings you joy.
5. When you get home, share the items each of you picked up on you walk, and explain why it brings you joy.

Art:
Georgia O’Keefe inspired flowers
- Look at images of Georgia O’Keefe’s art
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3iKpM0H6Ek
https://www.georgiaokeeffe.net/paintings.jsp
- Create your own close up picture of a flower.
- You may wish to use a magnifying glass to help you look closely.
- I recommend using pastels as they are great for blending colours; however, you may use crayons, pencil crayons, or paint.
Inspired by BC Tsimshian Artist Roy Henry Vickers
- Look at the art by Roy Henry Vickers in the Storytelling and Art video from last week for inspiration or look at his website:
https://spiritsofthewestcoast.com/collections/roy-henry-vickers
Or use Google images to find images of more of his prints.
- Use pastels, crayons, or pencil crayons to create a blended background such as a sunset, sunrise or a seascape.
- Cut black paper to create silhouettes. Alternately, colour paper black before cutting it. Glue silhouettes to the coloured backgrounds.

ADST:
Leaf Rubbing
- Collect different kinds of leaves.
- Wash and dry them well.
- Lay a leaf upside down and cover with paper.
- Use crayons or pencil crayons to create a rubbing.
- Experiment with different types of leaves.
Make a musical instrument
- Your challenge is to create a musical instrument that you could play using recycled materials.
- Here are a few videos to give you some inspiration!
- *Challenge* – Make a few instruments and have family members play together.
Design your own binoculars!
- Look for materials around your house to design a special pair of binoculars. Think paper, cardboard, wrapping paper, string, sticks and more! Get creative!
- Go for a walk around your neighbourhood. Stop a few times to look around with your binoculars.
- Do some things stand out more than usual? Can you see things more clearly or with more detail?
- Play I-Spy with a family member, taking turns looking through the binoculars.
- Take your binoculars out after dark and look up at the stars! Can you see some constellations or groups of stars that make a shape?
